چکیده

We introduce a reshuffled approach to empirical analyze signs’ organization in real directed signed social networks of Epinions and Slashdots from the global viewpoint. In the reshuffled approach, each negative link has probability prs to exchange its sign with another positive link chosen randomly. Through calculating the entropies of social status (Sin and Sout) of and mimicking opinion formation of the majority-rule model on each reshuffled signed network, we find that Sin and Sout reach their own minimum values as well as the magnetization |m∗| reaches its maximum value at prs = 0. Namely, individuals share the homogeneous properties of social status and dynamic status in real directed signed social networks. Our present work provides some interesting tools and perspective to understand the signs’ organization in signed social networks. The 90/10 phenomenon in directed signed social networks

We empirical study the signs’ property in the directed signed social networks of Slashdot and Epinions by using an reshuffled approach. Through calculating the entropy Sout and the giant component G, we find an interesting 90/10 phenomenon: each individual labels his/her neighbors as friends with 90% or foes with 10% uniformly random from the macroscopic perspective. We also find that the entro...

Balanced clusters and diffusion process in signed networks

In this paper we study the topology effects on diffusion process in signed networks. Considering a simple threshold model for diffusion process, it is extended to signed networks and some appropriate definitions are proposed. This model is a basic model that could be extended and applied in analyzing dynamics of many real phenomena such as opinion forming or innovation diffusion in social netwo...

Are Social Networks Really Balanced?

There is a long-standing belief that in social networks with simultaneous friendly/hostile interactions (signed networks) there is a general tendency to a global balance. Balance represents a state of the network with lack of contentious situations. Here we introduce a method to quantify the degree of balance of any signed (social) network. It accounts for the contribution of all signed cycles ...

Can Social Contagion Help Global Health ‘Jump the Shark’?; Comment on “How to Facilitate Social Contagion?”

The instrumental use of social networks has become a central tenet of international health policy and advocacy since the Millennium project. In asking, ‘How to facilitate social contagion?’, Karl Blanchet of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine therefore reflects not only on the recent success, but also hints to growing challenges; the tactics of partnerships, alliances and platfo...
